FAQs

General

How much does breakdown recovery cost?

Daytime recovery is £85 call-out plus £2.50 a mile, counted from where we collect your vehicle to where we drop it off, and the first 5 miles are included. Nights & bank holidays are £135 plus £2.50 a mile, with the same 5 miles included. We confirm the total before we set off.

How quickly can you get to me?

It depends on where you are and what we're already doing. Across Nottingham we're often with you quickly, and we always give you an honest arrival time when you call, not a hopeful one.

Can you replace my battery at the roadside?

Yes. We test your battery and charging system, and if the battery's failing we supply and fit the right one where you are, including stop-start (EFB and AGM) batteries. Send us your reg and we'll give you an all-in price.

Do you recover motorbikes?

Yes, we recover motorbikes as well as cars. We secure the bike properly for the journey and take it home, to your garage or wherever it needs to go.

Do you fit tyres at the roadside?

Mobile tyre fitting is coming soon. Until then, if you've got a flat or burst tyre, we can recover you and the car to a tyre fitter.

I've got breakdown cover. Can I still call you?

Of course. Anyone can call us. We're pay-as-you-go, so there's no membership, and you just pay the price we agree before we set off.

FAQs

Breakdown recovery

Is car recovery the same as towing?

Near enough, and most people use the words interchangeably. The difference is that we carry your car on a flatbed or trailer rather than towing it along on its own wheels, which is much safer for automatics, 4x4s, EVs and anything with a gearbox or drive problem.

Do you recover cars after an accident?

Yes, as long as it's safe to load. Crash-damaged vehicles take longer to secure, so there's an extra £30–£60, which we confirm before we set off. If the police are at the scene, follow their instructions first, and tell us if your insurer has already arranged recovery.

Can you take my car straight to my garage?

Yes. Tell us where it's going when you call and we'll include it in the price. If the garage is closed, we can take it home and move it another time.

My car has an electric handbrake that won't release. Can you still move it?

Yes. That's exactly what recovery skates are for. They take the weight of the locked wheels so the car can be loaded without damage. Skates are £40 for one or two wheels, or £60 for all four, only if needed, and we'll always check with you first.

I've lost the keys. Can you still move the car?

Yes. Skates let us move a car that won't roll, including one with no keys. Before we load it, we'll ask you to show it's yours, for example with the V5C logbook and photo ID.

Do you recover vans?

Not yet. We're recovering cars and motorbikes for now, with van recovery coming soon. We can still test and replace van batteries where you are.

How is the price worked out?

It's a call-out charge plus a rate per mile, counted from where we collect your vehicle to where we drop it off. The call-out covers us reaching you within 10 miles of our NG5 base. Daytime and night rates are published on our prices page, and we confirm your total before we set off.

FAQs

Jump starts

Can a jump start damage my car?

Done properly, using the manufacturer's jump points and the right sequence, it's safe. The risk comes from doing it wrong, which is why we use proper kit and test everything afterwards.

How long should I drive after a jump start?

Ideally 30 minutes or more of proper driving, not just a trip round the block. Even then a badly flattened battery may not fully recover. Our battery test tells you whether it will.

What if the car still won't start after a jump?

Then it's likely something other than the battery, like the starter motor, fuel or an electrical fault. We'll talk you through the options, including recovering it to a garage, with the price agreed first.

FAQs

Mobile battery replacement

How do I know if my battery needs replacing?

Slow starts, needing jump starts, a battery warning light or stop-start that's stopped working are all common signs. Batteries often last around five years, less with lots of short trips. Our test tells you for sure.

What are EFB and AGM batteries?

They're heavier-duty batteries built for cars with stop-start and lots of electronics. If your car came with one, it needs one again. A standard battery will fail early and can cause stop-start faults.

How much does a new battery cost?

It depends on the battery your vehicle needs. Send us your registration on WhatsApp and we'll give you an exact, all-in price for the battery and fitting before we come out.

Do you fit leisure batteries in caravans and campervans?

Yes. We can test and replace leisure batteries as well as vehicle starter batteries. Tell us the make and model, and the battery if you know it, when you get in touch.

FAQs

Motorbike recovery

Can you recover a bike that's been dropped?

Yes, as long as it's safe to do so. If you've come off, make sure you're OK and get checked over first. Call 999 if anyone is hurt. We'll look after the bike.

Do you do motorbike batteries?

Yes. We can jump start a bike, test its battery and charging, and supply and fit a new battery where it is.

How much does motorbike recovery cost?

The same published rates as car recovery: a call-out charge plus a rate per mile from collection to drop-off, with daytime and night rates. We confirm the total before we set off.

FAQs

Mobile tyre fitting

What should I do if a tyre blows out while I'm driving?

Hold the steering wheel firmly, don't brake hard, and let the car slow down gradually before pulling over somewhere safe. On a fast road, get out on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier.

When will mobile tyre fitting start?

Soon. We'll add it here as soon as it's live. In the meantime we can recover you to a tyre fitter.
