What happens

What you can expect

  1. 01

    Everyone safe first

If anyone's hurt or the road is blocked, call 999 before anything else. If the police are at the scene, follow their instructions; they sometimes arrange removal themselves.

  2. 02

    Agree the price

Tell us where the car is, what's damaged and where it needs to go. We confirm the total by text or WhatsApp before we set off, including the published extra for damaged vehicles.

  3. 03

    Loaded with care

Damaged cars often have a locked wheel or loose panels. We use recovery skates and a winch where needed, and secure anything loose for the journey.

  4. 04

    Delivered where you need it

Home, your own garage, or the bodyshop or repairer your insurer tells you to use. Keep the receipt: you may be able to claim it back.

Questions

Accident recovery: your questions

How much does accident recovery cost?

Our normal recovery rates (£85 call-out plus £2.50 a mile by day, with the first 5 miles included), plus £30–£60 for a damaged vehicle because it takes longer to load and secure. We confirm the total before we set off.

Will my insurer pay for the recovery?

If the accident wasn't your fault, the cost of recovery is usually part of what you claim from the other driver's insurer, so keep the receipt. If your own policy includes recovery, check with your insurer first so you don't pay twice.

Can you take my car to the bodyshop my insurer has chosen?

Yes. Give us the address when you call and we'll include it in the price. If they're closed, we'll agree the best alternative with you, such as taking it home first.

Do I need to wait for the police?

If the police are at the scene, follow their instructions. If they're not involved and the road is clear, call us as soon as everyone's safe and you've exchanged details with the other driver.
